North American Dog Agility Council

The North American Dog Agility Council (NADAC) is an organization that hosts dog agility trials to demonstrate the teamwork between a dog and its handler.  NADAC trials offer a variety of games and class divisions for all levels, from introductory to championship.

We have been hosting NADAC trials since 1994; shortly after it was established.  We host 4 NADAC trial each year.  3 are held at the Leatherdale Equine Center in Saint Paul in March, May, and October.  A fourth is held outdoors in September at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Lake Elmo.  We have also hosted multiple NADAC Championships in the past,

Agility

Agility is a sport where a handler guides a dog through a series of obstacles within a time limit. The sport tests a dog’s physical prowess, mental concentration, and ability to follow instructions. It also showcases the teamwork, communication, and trust between a dog and its handler.

Here are some things to know about NADAC agility:

To compete, dogs must be registered, healthy, trained, and at least 18 months old.

There are divisions for veterans and junior handlers.

There are different jump heights for different divisions.  The jump heights are very dog friendly.

A gamble, or distance challenge, is an optional area in some regular rounds and games. In this area, the handler directs the dog over obstacles while remaining on the far side of a line.

Some clubs offer mixed format trials that combine double run and single run classes.

There are some unique obstacles like hoops, gates, and barrels.

Parade of NADAC Veterans

The parade of veterans was created to pay tribute to the older dogs that have loved the sport of NADAC agility for years.  It is a way to bring these handlers and dogs together and let them be in the ring “one more time.”

Whether they have acquired multiple titles and NATCH’s or they just ran to have fun, we honor them for all of their achievements in the agility ring.  Some teams have accomplished everything they set out to do and others achieved more then they could have ever dreamed.
