A bit about the club and our history
The Minnesota Mixed Breed Club was established in 1992. Back then mixed breed dogs were not allowed to enter most dog sport events. There were a lot less sports offered back then but they included obedience and tracking. In 1983 the American Mixed Breed Obedience Registration (AMBOR) was established in 1983 as an alternate to AKC/CKC so that mixed breed dogs could earn obedience and tracking titles. MMBC hosted fun matches so that mixed breeds could earn AKC equivalent obedience titles. In 1994 the United Kennel Club (UKC) worked with AMBOR to include mixed breeds in UKC shows. Mixed breed dogs could finally enter real shows and compete alongside purebred dogs. The American Kennel Club (AKC) did not start allowing mixed breeds until 2010.
MMBC also went to public events and setup a booth to educate the public on how great mixed breeds were and all the different things that they could do with them. We would also do demos at events to showcase our special dogs. And we had a group that did monthly therapy dog visits at the Minneapolis Children’s Hospital and 2 local nursing homes.
The North American Dog Agility Council (NADAC) was established in 1993 and in 1994 we started hosting NADAC agility trials. We also proudly hosted the NADAC Championships for 4 years from 1999-2003.
We started hosting United Kennel Club (UKC) obedience trials in 2002, weight pulls in 2007, and rally trials in 2009.
We started holding World Cynosports Rally (WCRL formerly APDT) trials in 2007 and (Companion Dog Sports Program (CDSP) obedience trials in 2009.
We started hosting Canine Performance Events (CPE) agility trials in 2009.
The club is full of volunteers who love their dogs and love hosting top notch events of a huge variety of sports so that they can play with and showcase their dogs and spend weekends with friends.
